

3-Day Training on Clubfoot Treatment

Clubfoot is a deformity in which the foot is turned in and upwards. It is the commonest musculoskeletal deformity in children, and left untreated, it is a cause of substantial disability. The Straight Child Foundation, in partnership with MiracleFeet, trains participants in Nsukka on Clubfoot treatment using the Ponseti method.
The training, which hosted health workers of varying cadres, took place at the Conference Hall of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu State from Monday 8th till Wednesday 10th May 2023.
The training was aimed at enhancing the knowledge of healthcare workers in the Ponseti method of clubfoot treatment and thereafter supporting the establishment of Clubfoot Clinic at the University of Nigeria Medical Center. This act will bring access to Clubfoot care closer to the people living in Nsukka and its environs. For the children born with clubfoot deformity and who are still below the age of 5years, such treatment will be free.
The training was focused on the correction and maintenance phases of clubfoot treatment using the Ponseti method, and the participants were all excited at this great opportunity.

Highlights of the training are intense lectures, question-and-answer sections, practicals that involve manipulation and casting using models, post-assessments, and the award of certificates of participation to participants.
