For CP chairs, orthotics and mobility aids, other assistive devices. We also plan to have an Ability Rehabilitation Center, providing multidisciplinary care to special needs children.
Cerebral palsy is a condition, NOT a disease, that affects the development of controlling muscles, movement and body posture. It is the result of damage to the parts of the brain that control movement. This permanent disability can range from a weakness in one hand, to almost a complete lack of voluntary movement. For most persons, the cause is unknown.
This makes it difficult for children to achieve developmental milestones, such as rolling, sitting, standing, walking, using both hands, talking and feeding, among others. Some persons with cerebral palsy may experience seizures, changes in behaviors and sleeping. All these features contribute to limitations while engaging in age-appropriate activities.
Help us fight Cerebral Palsy
Almost 2-3 children suffer from cerebral palsy out of 1000 newborn babies. It is the most common cause of the severe neuromuscular problem in childhood which doesn’t allow their body to do movement and balancing.
Symptoms of cerebral palsy vary from person to person. Thus, it requires different treatment for different abnormalities. But still, 60 % of children with cerebral palsy have normal IQs.
If compare globally, around 17 million children are suffering from Cerebral palsy and 500,000 alone are in Nigeria. This is the reason why The Straight Child Foundation starts the initiative to help the needy children.
