INTRODUCTION
The Straight Child Foundation is a registered, non-governmental, non-political organization with focus on childhood disabilities and deformities especially Cerebral Palsy and Clubfoot. She is a not-for-profit organization, born out of a strong desire to care for the youth and children particularly persons living with different physical, social and mental health-related challenges.
The straight Child Foundation is driven with the vision that “Every child can aspire towards the life beyond limits”.
We aim for a world where deformities, disabilities and challenges do not limit any child from attaining his God-given potentials. We hope to achieve this through, improved knowledge, advocacy and training for children and organizing holistic outreaches specially for those living with perceived limitations and challenges whether physical, social or mental.
THE ACTIVITIES
Though the COVID-19 restrictions stopped us from holding our usual annual activities, we were able to visit the Abia Special Center for the deaf and Mentally Challenged, World Bank Housing Estate and the School of the Blind, both in Umuahia on the 15th and 16th of December, respectively. We shared toiletries and beverages with them as a way of showing love and care and giving them a sense of belonging in the society during the Christmas period.
On the 17th of December, The Straight Child Foundation held a get-together with the aim of appreciating her staff and the clubfoot caregivers for standing strong and diligently working throughout the year. For it is said that “when we appreciate others for their hard work and the effort they put in, they get motivated and inspired to do more”.
FUTURE PROSPECTS
We hope to organize more activities in subsequent years that will impact lives mostly for youths and children with special needs.
